Old Gewandhaus Concert Hall

On display in the modern Gewandhaus Concert Hall, this image depicts the first Gewandhaus (1781-1884) during concert-time. Located in Leipzig, a center of the Bach Revival in the 19th-century, this hall played host to important performances of Bach, including those featuring Felix Mendelssohn on the podium. Mendelssohn directed the orchestra from 1835-1847.
